| The I-O 5435DP/5735DP/5755DP do not emulate a 4324 IBM printer. Our emulations, for Laser printers are:
3812-1 SCS (non IPDS, meaning no finishing feature support) 3812-16 IPDS (finishing features on the Canon supported) 4028 IPDS (finishing features on the Canon supported) The accessing of Canon finishing features is accomplished as the IO 5435 reads the AS/400 data stream looking for output bin values. These bin values are determined / selected in the associated printer file being used by the AS/400 IPDS job itself. These output bin values can cover a wide range but we only allow the customer / enduser to assign user selectable combinations of Canon finishing features to the output bin range of 128 to 135. In a nut shell here is what happens. The customer defines a combination of Canon finishing features to one or more of the output bins, 128, 129, 130, 131, 132, 133, 134 or 135. This is done inside the IO PrintControl Utility (PCU) or Configuration Utility (CU), depending on which program was supplied with the 5435DP. Then, when the AS/400 sources to our 5435DP the output bin number x, where x is in the range of 128 to 135 and x has already been defined with Canon finishing features a & b, our 5435DP will source to the Canon printer the Canon specific commands needed to invoke the users combination of pre-selected finishing features. The selection of Canon finishing features is found in the CU by selecting the following options: IPDS/AFP Printing Advanced Finishing command support Now select the drawer (128 - 135) and check the desired finishing features. The selection of Canon finishing features is found in the PCU by selecting the following options: Printer Ports/Emulations AFP1 Finishing Commands Then select the "Select Commands" button associated with the desired output bin number and check the desired finishing features. The finishing features described above only apply to an IPDS device type on the AS/400. Be aware that the 5435DP can configure as both an IPDS device and an SCS (non-IPDS) device on the AS/400 at the same time. With the proper selection in the PCU or CU (select TN5250) and a unique name given in the LPT1 box, and autoconfig on the AS/400 turned on, the 5435DP will automatically configure a 3812m1 SCS device type on the AS/400. You as a user do nothing on the AS/400. However, to configure an IPDS device on the AS/400 the steps in the manual must be followed. The AS/400 will not automatically create the IPDS device type. |
