FIRMWARE UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS Product: I-O 4465TX Date: June 8, 1999 Document No.: IPDSDX-INST02-AA3 This set of instructions will guide you through the necessary steps of upgrading the firmware in the I-O 4465TX. Be sure to perform each step correctly or the process will need to be restarted from the first. Note: If you are updating both the boot code and the firmware, do the boot code first. The boot code will be called "boot4465.xxx" and the firmware will be called "firm4465.xxx". The "xxx" is the version number (these may not be the same for the boot code and the firmware). If you have obtained these files from I-O's FTP site (or received them by e-mail), you will need to first extract the update files from the self-extracting ZIP file ("firmxxx.exe" or "bootxxx.exe") before you can continue. 1. Generate a listing of your customized settings by doing a self-test on the 4465TX. This is done by powering off the 4465TX, setting Switch 7 to "0" and Switch 8 to "1", then powering on the 4465TX. The self-test page that prints will contain your customized settings. Keep this as you will need it later. 2. Set Switch 8 to "0". 3. From a PC attached to the 4465TX through the parallel sharing port, copy the firmware file to the 4465TX by typing in the following command from the DOS prompt and pressing the ENTER key: COPY/B drive\directory\filename LPT1: The "drive\directory\filename" will be the drive and directory location, and firmware file name that you either received via e-mail, or downloaded from I-O's Web or FTP site. "LPT1:" is the name of the parallel port on the PC which you have connected the 4465TX. For example, if you have put the firmware file named "firm4465.105" on a diskette in Drive A in the subdirectory called IO and your printer is attached to the first parallel printer port, the DOS command you enter would be "COPY/B A:\IO\FIRM4465.105 LPT1:" 4. The Data LED will blink on the 4465TX indicating that the firmware file is being accepted by the 4465TX. This may take from 10 to 60 seconds. When the download has successfully completed, the PC will present the DOS prompt on the screen, and the laser printer attached to the 4465TX will print a message similar to the following: 4465TX Ver. 1.05_ PROG Begin Update Type - P Length = 413180. Update Successful, please cycle power! Note: If you are updating both the boot code and the firmware, do steps 3 and 4 for the boot code first. Then repeat steps 3 and 4 for the firmware before proceeding with step 5. 5. Power off the 4465TX, and then power it back on to load the new firmware for the 4465TX's flash. 6. Reissue any customized settings through the Host/PC download process that you wish to keep. Your customized settings will be on the self-test printout made at the beginning of this process.
